San Francisco Ferry Building

1 Ferry Building The Embarcadero at Market Street

Ferry Building

Ferry Building is one of the historic buildings in San Francisco, built in 1898 and inspired by European architecture. The building is constructed in Beaux Arts style, containing sophisticated arches and a245-foot clock tower. At the time of its construction, the ferry building was the city’s transportation hub, transporting 50,000 passengers a day. After the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge, the ferry building became obsolete and has been transformed into a marketplace with artisan goods, continuing to serve the area to this day.
